The Vinci project team has awarded Armaturis the contract to supply its Firsty couplers for the construction of the 2nd bridge over the Wouri river in Douala, Cameroun. The threaded rebar for these splices are being produced at our Saint-Chamas, France facility then shipped by container to the site.

L’astucieux petit manchon
L’acier et le béton se sont rencontrés dans les dernières années du XIXnd siècle et ne se sont plus quittés depuis. De leur union est né le “béton armé” qui permet de construire toujours plus solide, toujours plus grand, toujours plus haut.
Sans recours massif au béton armé, qui garantit à la fois la résistance des bâtiments et la robustesse des barrières de confinement, la construction d’une installation nucléaire ne saurait être envisagée. Et c’est naturellement dans le monde du nucléaire que la densité des armatures atteint les valeurs les plus élevées—le seul Complexe tokamak, qui occupe le cœur de l’installation ITER, mobilisera au total 30 000 tonnes de barres d’acier (plus de quatre fois le poids de la Tour Eiffel) pour 100 000 mètres cubes de béton.

The Hérisson+® adjustment splices are specifically designed to compensate for both:
- The variable distances between ends of rebars to be assembled,
- The mismatch between the threads of the same bars.
